Artist Statement:

Since 2005, my work has primarily been based on the simplification of a portrait. I like to break down a photograph to be as simple as possible, even pushing boundaries by leaving out key facial features. I like to see if I can still maintain that individual's features, emotions, and “essence,” while keeping the details as minimal as possible. These portraits are often combined with sayings or images that relate to the specific individual. Despite how well you may know someone there is always another side to be explored.

I am currently working in multiple mediums including, but not limited to, acrylic, oil, watercolor, weaving, fabric dying and screen printing. I strive to see beyond the obvious to put a new perspective on an everyday item or face.
